hello and welcome to Mack's Steam Loco Liveries! first off: thank you so much downloading this livery mod, and for being autistic enough to read this readme file! the amount of time i've put into this thing (the mod, but also this readme) is kind of insane, so it means a lot to me that you've decided to check it out! this mod is designed for those who want to apply cool-looking liveries to their steamers without having to go through the hassle of building a livery mod themselves with lego's Logos & Decals, which can be difficult if you're not adept with the in-game editor or working with .json files.

| WARNING |
------------------------------------------------
this mod requires Lego's Library of Stuff (LoS), specifically v1.4.5 or newer, and Lego's Logos and Deco (L&D), v2.0.2 or newer, both available on nexusmods. it's installed via Unity Mod Mananger (UMM), also available on nexus. no other mods or utilities are requires.
compatibility with other LoS- and L&D-based steam locomotive livery mods is on a "creator's choice" basis. if someone has this mod installed, for example, and downloads a completely different steam locomotive livery mod, it's not guaranteed their mod will "play nice" with this one, so to speak. if you're a mod author and would like to ensure your mod is compatible with ours, reach out to us and we can help you make it so.
compatibility with any steam locomotive mods that use RailLoader and Strange Customs for their edits are likely INCOMPATIBLE with this mod. this is because RL and SC "overwrite" changes made with UMM and LoS during the loading process, and the creator of RL and SC has refused to look into the issue. lucky for us, the number of rolling stock mods using RL and SC is very low, so you shouldn't have to worry.

| WHAT THIS MOD DOES |
------------------------------------------------
long story short, this mod adds a bunch of colorable decals to all 21 base-game steam locomotives. with this, you get colorable walkway lining, pilot lining, cab lining (two styles, with optional color fill), whitewalls, wheel centers, wheel stars, numberplate and headlight numberboard colors, and front headlight numberboard lining, plus side lining (also with optional color fill) and bottom-of-the-cistern lining on every tender. each option is indepdently toggleable, and, unlike versions older than v1.2.0, each group has its own colorizer component at the bottom of the menu. stuff like the wheel centers and stars can even be used together, if that's your thing!
the idea here was to provide the end user with the ability to apply "generic" lining styles to their models without needing to do it themselves. while it can't replicate tons of specific locomotive liveries, it does add a lot more flare to the locomotives as they are. not *everything* is colorable: stuff like boilers, cab roofs, cylinder caps and the whole of the wheels are still locked to their default colorizations. luckily there are other mods that add other livery options, so i'm not exactly in a rush to add tons of more decals to this mod. that being said...
... this mod is fully designed to be used with mine and cjane's Steam Loco Customizations mod, as well as cjane's Steam Loco Linings & Livery Pack. SLC adds a whole bunch of toggleable lettering and numbering decals to each locomotive and tender, allowing for much more freedom with how your locos are lettered. cjane's Locomotive Liveries mod adds all the things this mod doesn't have: colorable boilers, lining on the domes and cylinders, unique lining on the tender sides, and colorable tender decks. if you really want to go all-out with designing steam locomotive liveries, these mods are for you. have fun playing painter!

| CLOSING NOTES & THANK YOUS (AGAIN) |
------------------------------------------------
as of right now, i have little to no plans to continue adding stuff to this mod.
of course, i have some thank-yous to dole out. legotrainman deserves thanks for making this mod possible, and for always giving me an excuse to find something in his mods that i can break in new and creative ways. cjane has my thanks for being so affable towards modifying her livery mod to make it compatible with mine. mrcsam of the WNCRR also deserves my thanks for basically getting me off my ass and helping keep me motivated to get this god-forsaken project done. thanks to fuzzy for working with me to make his Southern liveries compatible with my mods, and for supporting me in my efforts here. and finally, thank you to alextheperson for final-round betatesting and making sure i didn't release a buggy mess of a mod. without these people, it's unlikely this mod would exist in its current form, so for that, they have my gratitude.

if you want to support me (mackenzie) and my work, i do have a Ko-fi page for donations: https://ko-fi.com/mackenzie_ev. i won't ever require anyone to pay for the mods i create, but i meant it when i said this mod took a *lot* out of me, especially v1.3.0 itself. i mean it when i say i spent many nights staying up til 4am or even later just to finish small parts of this mod, and even with that it took much, *much* longer than i expected it to. wouldn't you know, doing this to my standards on 21 individual locos and 20 individual tenders was a bit time-consuming! so if you appreciate the work i've done and want to toss some dollarydoos my way, i'd really really appreciate it! thank you so much for downloading this mod and (hopefully) enjoying what i've made here.
thank you one last time for downloading my mod. i hope you have as much fun using it as i did creating it. cheers!
